Grasmere village is situated off the A591, between Ambleside and Keswick. Riversdale is on the northern edge of the village and has its own car park for guests' use.
The nearest train station is at Windermere, from where a regular bus service (555) operates to the village. An open top bus (599) operates during the summer months and is a lovely way to admire the stunning scenery as you pass Rydal Water and Grasmere lake.
Taxis are also available from the station and will cost about £10 for a single journey.
FROM THE SOUTH
Leave the M6 at J36 and turn left onto the A590 signed to Kendal. After approx 4 miles continue forward onto the A591 for Windermere. Drive past Windermere, continuing on the A591 towards Ambleside. Pass through Ambleside following the A591 signed for Keswick.
Approx 4 miles from Ambleside, at a mini roundabout, continue straight on ignoring the turn for Grasmere to the left. After almost one mile you will see the Swan Hotel on your right. Turn left opposite the hotel into Swan Lane and after a few hundred yards, just before the bridge over the river, you will find Riversdale signed to the left. Turn into our private car park.
FROM THE NORTH
Leave the M6 at J40 and turn right onto the A66 signed for Keswick. After approx 13 miles, near Threlkeld, turn left onto the B5322 signed for Thirlmere. Follow this road to its end and then turn left onto the A591 signed for Windermere. Continue on the A591 for a further 6 miles.
After coming down a long steep hill and entering the 30mph speed limit area on the edge of Grasmere, look for The Swan Hotel on your left. Immediately opposite the hotel, turn right into Swan Lane. After a few hundred yards, just before the bridge over the river, you will find Riversdale signed to the left. Turn into our private car park.
