Grasmere may be just a small village, but it is big on choice when it comes to places to eat, both during the day and in the evening. And the nice thing is that they are all unique in their own way – not another High Street chain.
One of our personal favourites is Villa Colombina, next to Dove Cottage on the edge of the village. Owner and chef Mike Metcalfe has a wealth of experience of cooking true Italian dishes and there are some delicious speciality dishes on the menu. Booking is strongly recommended. Tel: 015394 35547

Another highly regarded restaurant is the award winning Jumble Room (015394 35188) This small and colourful restaurant is a wonderful contemporary find in traditional Lakeland. It's menu's are a global and eclectic mix and are cooked daily using the finest local and, where possible, organic ingredients. |
One of those closest to Riversdale is Sara’s Bistro to which many of our guests return again and again. Offering an excellent choice of locally sourced food, you would be well advised to book in advance to make sure of your table here (015394 35266)

For vegetarians, a visit to The Rowan Tree (015394 35528) will be well worthwhile. With some outside seating overlooking the river by the church this is a lovely setting for a warm summer’s evening. |
Many of the hotels also cater for non-residents and those closest to Riversdale include the award winning Rothay Garden Hotel and The Grasmere Hotel, while The Lamb Inn, next door to the Red Lion Hotel, offers good pub food. |
